DOP completes edit of "The Island That Time Forgot"
9th July 2010: Distant Object Productions today announced the completion of "The Island That Time Forgot".
The Island That Time Forgot follows an adventure on a remote island in Lake Victoria that has the most elaborate collection of ancient rock gongs on the African continent.
Led by Rungwe Kingdon, a cultural arts expedition set out to reawaken the music of the gongs. They discover a previously undocumented rock gong, and a new species of reptile specially adapted to living on the rocks. A specimen is sent for analysis to Stephen Spawls, a herpetologist specializing in East African Reptiles, who confirms it is both new to science and Uganda's only endemic reptile.
Showing a hazardous adventure by canoe, and stunning HD photography this unique island with its ancient Neolithic rock gongs has never been filmed before. It uses a unique sound track of music from the rock gongs played in a fusion of Ugandan folk and modernist classical music and exposes bittersweet contrasts of natural beauty versus the rubbish left by an impoverished human population.
One of the biggest threats to the island, its gongs and its wildlife is the lack of awareness of this expanding fishing population. Is the lizard at risk?
