Distant Object wins VIDEOMED trophy
14th February 2011: Distant Object Productions today announced that the documentary "Understanding High Blood Pressure" received the winners trophy in the Heart Diseases: Prevention and Treatment category at VIDEOMED 2010, Spain.
"It's a fantastic honour to have won such a prestigious award in one of the longest running medical film festivals" said Martin Briggs-Watson, Executive Producer of Understanding High Blood Pressure. "Given preliminary audits on patients watching the DVD suggest the advice in the video is effecting change in their lifestyles, it is now very rewarding for the film to be recognised by peers and doctors alike at this well established international film festival" added Zuleika Kingdon, Director/Editor of Understanding High Blood Pressure.
VIDEOMED celebrated its 25th year in 2010, with the festival taking place in Badajoz, Spain in November. With affiliate festivals around the world, VIDEOMED is one of the longest established and widest ranging medical film festivals. To celebrate the 25th Anniversary, the 2010 VIDEOMED trophy is an exclusive scuplture of Hygieia - Goddess of Health, daughter of Aesculapius (God of Medicine). This orginal scuplture was created by the sought-after Parisian sculpture Liliane Caumont.
The complete DVD "Understanding High Blood Pressure: How to avoid Heart Attacks and Strokes" contains four parts consisting of the main documentary, a short drama delivering the key messages, additional patient stories and a doctors' cut explaining treatment guidelines for healthcare professionals and interested patients. Distant Object Production collaborated closely with leading researchers Professors Peter Sever and Neil Poulter and family physician Dr Henry White from Experts In Health to produce a trusted patient education resource from the world experts.
The first audience survey for the film revealed that 85% of patients who watched it made at least one change to an aspect of their lives with the aim of lowering their blood pressure. The DVD has received endorsements from the Blood Pressure Association, World Hypertension League, British Hypertension Society, British Primary Care Cardiovascular Society, and Diabetes UK.
